POLAR BEARS AGAINNNNNNN!!!!

I know I didn't update my blog for a while and here is more information about polar bears again. =] I didn't find any new updates about polar bears in this two weeks, but I will talk about what happen before the American government had put the polar bears in their threaten species list.

Before, the polar bears get to put into the threaten list, there were lots of arguments between big oil and polar bears. Since the American government is bidding for millions acres of polar bear habitat in the Chukchi Sea, where 15 billion barrel of crude oil are also located. The American government has to choose either protecting the polar bears or earning more money. This is also a reason why Brandon Frazier, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, thinks “An endangered listing can affect the sell-off of the oil-drilling rights. That's why the decision on the polar bear has been delayed. They are trying to wait it out, get the lease sale through and then make the decision.”

Although the American government’s decision was delayed and they didn’t put polar bears into the endangered category, I am still pleased that the American government had finally chosen to protect the polar bears rather than earning more money. I am sure that people will also be pleased how the American government had finally decided to protect the polar bears, since exhausted polar bears clinging on a shrinking ice is so well-known and it’s already a symbol for global warming. Furthermore, through the US Geological Survey said that there are only 25000 polar bears living in the world today, if the ice keeps on melting, an estimate of two thirds of the polar bears will die off in the mid-century. I really hope that what the American government had done will help the polar bears. Therefore, LET’S BE ECO FRIENDLY AND HELP SAVE THE BIG WHITE FLUFFY POLAR BEARS!!!!!!

Let's save the Polar Bears!!!!!!!!

Let’s save the Polar Bears!!!!!!

A few months ago, we got some good news about saving the polar bears. The federal government had decided to list the polar bears as a threatened animal and they will be protected. YAY!!!! This might be a good news, but some environmentalists think that polar bears should not only be put in the threatened category but they should be put in the endangered category, where they will have more protections. Since, global warming is also an issue on what cause the polar bear to extinction. I think we should also contribute and help protect the polar bears by saving our own environments.

I agreed on putting the polar bears on the endangered list because there are about 25000 polar bears left. Although the numbers had risen from 5000 during the 50s to 25000, I think they should still be protected because each year there are still 500 polar bears being hunt in Canada. Aw… Furthermore, the polar bears’ environment s is also threatened by global warming, where more and more Arctic sea ice is melting, which means the place where polar bears can live is becoming less. Can you imagine you home being flooded?

In conclusion, I believe that the laws on polar bears should be tighten because the population of the polar bears will be decreasing because of global warming and hunting problems in the future. So we should PROTECT the polar bears and give them a pleasant environment to live in –just like you home. =]
